Don’t Do THIS in SharePoint

Be careful when you “Sign in as Different User”

Have you encountered these problems in SharePoint? Here’s why…

  1. Other documents save with an unexpected user account- check whose windows account logged into the machine
  2. Page content shows information from the previous user- check cached information
  3. Session variables contain information from previous user- the cookies have not been cleared

Sign in as Different User is not meant to be a security feature!

This feature allows users who have more than one AD account to  login quickly with a different account to SharePoint. To guarantee that one user cannot see data from a different user, you must log off/log on in Windows. Don’t use the Sign in as a different user.

Learn SharePoint at DeVore-

3 Must Knows About the New Facebook Timeline

Social Media Tip of the Day:

So you’ve seen the new Facebook Timeline replacing the previous “wall.” If you love it or hate it, here is what you NEED to know about it.

  1. Subscribe button- This allows people to get your updates without friending you. Keep a personal profile, without having to friend everyone. If you get a friend request and you have your Subscribe feature turned on, then they will be subscribed to your updates marked as public.
  2. Cover photo- Think of this as your website header. To design something unique, remember the dimensions are 851 pixels wide by 315 pixels high, and remember to leave a good spot in the lower left corner for you profile picture will go. Here is a great example:

  3. Adding Life Events to your Timeline- Add significant moments in your life to your Timeline with the Life Events. We suggest you don’t add them all at once because they will post updates to all your friends and you will look like you are bragging.

Right now the Timeline only affects personal profiles (not Facebook Pages), and you must activate the Timeline feature to get started. But you can use the Timeline to tell your life story in a new way.

How to Calculate a Range in Excel

Excel Tip of the Day:

The range provides information on the statistical dispersion of a data sample. Simply subtract the lowest number from the highest number, and it is easy to calculate the range in Microsoft Excel.

  1. In a new workbook, type the list of numbers in a column.
  2. To find the highest number in the data sample: Click on a blank cell and type =Max(range of cells), where range of cells is the first and cell that contain data points. Ex: data in cells A1 to A100, the range is A1:A100.
  3. To find the lowest number in the data sample: Click on another blank cell and type =Min(range of cells), with the same range of numbers from step 2.
  4. Click on another blank cell and type =, followed by the cell that contains the maximum value, -, the cell that contains the lowest value. Ex: If cell A101 contains the maximum value and cell A102 contains the minimum value, type =A102-A101 in cell A103 to find the range.

Increase Productivity with These 3 Firefox Add-Ons

Tip of the Day:

Top 3 Firefox Add-Ons for Productivity

If you use Mozilla’s Firefox, add these to your browswer to boost your efficiency.

1. Tab Mix Plus- Using tabs is  great, but open too many and you browser becomes too cluttered. Tab Mix Plus will help you sort, undo closed tabs, and manage your sessions to help you multitask.

2. Print Edit- This helps you format any webpage for printing. Add and remove elements from a page (banner ads or search bars).

3. PriceBlink- Comparision shopping just got easier. Prices vary between websites, but this add-on automatically searches across dozens of sites and alerts you when the same product is available somewhere else for cheaper.

Thanks for these great productivity add-ons!

Which browser add-ons do you use?
